Dr. Jimmy Gardiner milling a tooth at Singing River Dentistry in Tuscumbia, AL.At Singing River Dentistry, our goal is to prevent dental problems before they occur. Unfortunately, this is not always possible due to poor oral hygiene, genetics, infrequent checkups, and other risk factors. This is why we also specialize in restorative dentistry. Our restorative services are designed to improve the function and aesthetics of your smile, as well as your overall oral health.

Dental Fillings

Dental fillings are the best way to restore minor to moderate instances of tooth decay. Most fillings these days consist of a material known as composite resin. Composite resin is an aesthetically-pleasing material that we color-match to the existing shade of your enamel. For this reason, a composite filling is virtually indistinguishable from the rest of your tooth.

What Are Dental Crowns?

Crowns or dental caps are popular in the dental world and are often used to protect and preserve a damaged tooth. This is the most common dental restoration process in situations where someone ends up losing part of their tooth. This cracked tooth will be painful and sensitive, however, with a cap or dental crown, you will be able to restore full functionality thereby making it a great solution. There are various kinds of caps and crowns available to choose from depending on the kind of damage to the tooth.

Dental Crowns

A dental crown is a tooth-shaped cap that completely covers the visible portion of a damaged or decayed tooth. In previous years, a dental crown was fabricated using a gold or silver amalgam.

CEREC Same Day Crowns

Dental crowns are part of oral health care and work well for complete tooth restoration too. However, dental crowns take a long time to get designed and you may have to wait for a couple of days before your crown is fitted thereby making it inconvenient for you to wait that long. Thankfully, these days you can get your hands on CEREC dental crowns which are same-day dental crowns. This makes it convenient for you to flash your smile without having to wait.

Dental Implants

A dental implant is a small titanium post that we surgically embed into the jawbone. The implant serves as the root component of a prosthetic tooth. Once the implant is in place, it will fuse to the bone during the process of osseointegration. Osseointegration allows the implant to support a restoration against the strongest forces of your bite. For this reason, dental implants are widely considered to be the next best thing to your natural teeth.

Dentures are removable prosthetic teeth. They have been used for hundreds of years. However, the dentures of today are vastly different from the dentures used many years ago. Thanks to developments in the dental world, the dentures that we use today are much more comfortable and much more natural in appearance than they used to be. Dentures consist of acrylic resin teeth set in a gum-colored acrylic base. Made from an impression of your mouth, the base rests directly on your gums, restoring the functions of your missing teeth as well as the appearance of your smile.

Dentures: Complete & Partials

A denture is a removable appliance that is usually used to replace one or more missing teeth. A partial denture usually attaches to the surrounding teeth with metal clasps. A complete denture consists of a flesh-colored acrylic base that supports a complete arch of prosthetic teeth. We offer custom-fit dentures as a more comfortable, functional, and durable solution.

Dentures to Implant Bridge

While dentures can simply be applied to the gums using gels and creams to secure them in place, that is not the best solution. They can easily slip out of place when eating or talking and the gel or cream typically has to be applied multiple times throughout the day. A different option and one that provides better results are dentures secured to an implant bridge.

Same Day Dentures

Traditional dentures require you to wait a couple of days before you can have them fitted in your mouth. Same day dentures can be fitted without this wait time. There is no difference in terms of quality or functionality, however, you may have to pay a little extra if you want the dentures at such short notice.

Inlays & Onlays

Inlays and onlays are ideal for areas of decay too large for a filling, but not large enough to require the placement of a dental crown. The restoration is considered an inlay if it is placed within the occlusal (bite) surface of a tooth. The restoration is considered an onlay if it extends beyond one or more of the occlusal cusps.

Dental Bridges

Dental bridges fill in the open space between the teeth by using dental implants or natural teeth as support. The bridges are permanent fixtures that do not come off easily. Not only does it add to the aesthetic appeal, but they are also quite functional and you'll be able to enjoy your favorite food without any pain or discomfort.

Tooth Extractions

There are two types of tooth extractions: simple and surgical. We perform a simple extraction on a tooth that has already erupted above the gumline. We perform a surgical extraction on a tooth that has become impacted, or has yet to erupt, such as wisdom teeth. Extraction may be necessary to prevent the spread of infection and other complications.

Impacted Wisdom Teeth

Most of us possess a set of third molars commonly known as wisdom teeth. Wisdom teeth typically erupt much later than other permanent teeth, which can cause problems for your oral health. We specialize in wisdom teeth extractions to prevent or alleviate these potential problems.

Root Canals

A root canal is a last-ditch effort to save a tooth from extraction. We may recommend a root canal if an infection has spread to the "pulpy" center of the tooth that contains nerve endings and other connective tissues. Once the infection has been removed, we fill the canals with a rubber-like material known as gutta-percha. A tooth that has received root canal treatment typically needs to be capped with a crown.
