How To Stop Food From Getting Stuck Under Your Gum Line

Posted on 5/24/2021 by SRD Tuscumbia
How To Stop Food From Getting Stuck Under Your Gum LineIt is very common for food to get stuck under your gum line. In most cases, food can get wedged under your gum line or even into the grooves of your molars. As much as this might seem normal and habitual, it can be quite harmful if left alone. The food particles stuck under your gumline can feed the bacteria in your mouth. When such food particles are in abundance, bacteria will feed on them and produce acids.

The presence of acid in your mouth will eat away at the enamel, causing tooth decay. This is why it is very important to prevent food from getting stuck under your gum line. To stop food from getting stuck under your gum line, you should brush and rinse your teeth after every meal, and avoid certain foods.

Regular dental checkups at Singing River Dentistry also ensure that your teeth get thoroughly cleaned and tooth decay is detected as early as possible.

Brush After Every Meal

After eating, some food particles might get stuck under your gum line. To get rid of them, you can brush your gums gently after a meal. Additionally, you can opt to floss your teeth and gums to remove any stubborn food particles that brushing might have missed.

Rinse After Eating

To immediately eliminate any food particles after eating, you should try swishing water around your mouth. You should do this immediately after finishing up your meal because the longer the food is stuck under your gum line, the harder it becomes to remove. Rinsing your mouth with water will help knock out the food particles stuck under your gum line. You can also use fluoride toothpaste for better results.

Avoid Certain Foods

Strawberries, blackberries, blueberries, and any fruit vegetable with small seeds can easily leave some seeds tucked under your gum line. If possible, you should avoid eating such foods or control their intake. I

f you have to eat them, remember to clean your gums and teeth right after. This will help keep your gum line free from any bacteria. For more information on how to prevent food from getting stuck under your gum line, contact our offices.
