How To Take Care Of Your Dentures

Posted on 1/9/2023 by SRD Tuscumbia
How To Take Care Of Your DenturesDentures are removable plates that secure false teeth used in replacing missing teeth. Denture repair is often necessitated by worn out or damaged artificial teeth or cracks within the frame during their lifetime if not taken care of properly. If not repaired, replacement is inevitable and is more expensive than repair.

Steps to Take When Your Denture Breaks

Dentures are flexible but strong. Even so, they can still be damaged or experience wear, tear, and fractures caused by daily use. Another cause of damage to dentures arises from too tight or loose denture fits. Improper fit hinders functionality, appearance, and longevity.

When your denture needs repair, take it to a denture repair specialist found in dental clinics. There is a big temptation to do it yourself, particularly if the denture has taken a mild hit. However, patients are advised to avoid it as it may further damage their dentures.

How Long Do Dentures Last?

After about three years, dentures begin to show wear and tear signs depending on the build material, its quality, and use or misuse. Most dentures last between three to eight years. Thin dentures are more susceptible to cracks than thick ones. Wear of artificial teeth on the dentures can lead to uneven chewing.

Prevent Your Denture From Breaking

Most dentures are made from acrylic or malleable nylon that can withstand damage. Rest assured that your dentures will last as long as intended if you take good care of them. To prevent your dentures from damage, remove them before you go to bed, visit your dentist if your denture does not fit, and clean it regularly.

If you are having any issues with your dentures or you have missing teeth, give us a call today. We will book you an appointment with our dentist to get the assistance you need with your dental restorations.
